This week in the morning prayer meetings, we are focused on praying from 1 Thessalonians 1 in our times of devotional prayer. Today I was struck by Paul’s reference to “endurance inspired by hope” (v. 3). I reflected on this verse in the context of prayer and fact that we need hope in order to experience endurance in prayer. I think many of us know what it’s like to get pumped up about praying and wanting to really strengthen our prayer lives, but then after the initial excitement wears off we find ourselves struggling with the rhythms of normal life; or sometimes we fail to see the impact...

Last week in the prayer room one of the ‘devotional prayer’ passages that we looked at was Luke 2, and the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. One verse in that chapter always stands out to me:

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:19)

Like most people, I find Christmas to be a season of tremendous busyness and many times I have struggled to truly connect with Jesus in the midst of it all. In Luke 2 we read that Mary was able to ‘treasure’ and ‘ponder’ at the amazing things that...

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is coming so quickly! We are now in the season that the Church calls ‘Advent’. Many of us associate Advent as being the weeks leading up to Christmas where we sing Christmas carols and when a special candle gets lit each week in Church.

I find Advent to be a very significant time of year, so let me share a couple of things that hopefully will increase its significance for you as well.

The term ‘advent’ comes from the Latin word adventus, which means ‘coming’. As Christians, we celebrate the first advent of Jesus,...

This week I had a great opportunity to speak at the weekly staff meeting at Hope Mission, which is a truly amazing ministry that serves the inner-city community and many others in the capital region.

I shared from Daniel 9-10, where Daniel has been spending time in prayer and fasting and then has some incredible visitations from the angel Gabriel.

Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. -Dan. 9:22-23...

This week in the prayer room we chose Hebrews 12 as one of the passages that we will use for devotional prayer. This familiar passage is one that all of us can relate to:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right...

Last week we began to look at an amazing time in the history of the Church in Edmonton. In ‘The Story of Glimpse of Glory – Pt. I’, we looked at the initial years of a worship ministry that God used to impact local churches in the area of worship throughout the capital region. Here’s a short recap of ‘Part I’ and more of the story of Glimpse.

In 1983, a handful of young adults at Central Baptist Church began to meet after the evening service for a time of...

Central Baptist Church has been chosen as the location for the 2014 Edmonton BURN. The reason for this choice is directly connected to what God did at Central, in raising up one of the most amazing expressions of contemporary worship music in the history of the Church in Edmonton.

For over 20 years, Central Baptist Church was the location of a city-wide ministry called “Glimpse of Glory”, that saw hundreds of youth and young adults gather together every week for extended times of worship. Glimpse was an undeniable move of the Holy Spirit, and the...

It was on this day, October 1 2009, that House of Prayer Edmonton started meeting each weekday morning from 9am – noon. Today we celebrate the 5 year anniversary of these daily prayer meetings. It is an amazing testimony of God’s grace that for 5 years there has been a near daily expression of prayer and worship, exalting the name of Jesus Christ over the capital region.

Originally these times of prayer and worship were called the ‘Nine to Noon Initiative’. From the very start we have emphasized three core elements: worship through music, devotional prayer from the Scriptures and...

Today I wanted to take a minute a share with you about one of my favorite people in the New Testament: a powerful intercessor named Epaphras. In Colossians 4:12, Paul writes:

“Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus…is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.”

I love this picture of this man of prayer who refused to give up and contended for the believers in Colosse. He surely battled through times of discouragement and weariness and stayed faithful in his times of...

It was on this day, back in 1727, that a group of Moravian believers in Herrnhut, Germany started a prayer meeting that continued night & day for over 100 years! It was out of that Moravian community that one of the greatest missions movement was launched. As many have said, it was a prayer meeting that literally changed history!

It’s hard to fathom...
